Twisters is a heart-pounding thrill ride held back by its flaws—but how gay is it? Universal Pictures Universal Pictures' new thriller lives up to the action hype but falls short on characters. The film casts openly queer and disabled actors, such as Dodani, who’s gay, and O’Brian, who’s lesbian living with a chronic illness (Crohn’s disease). While O’Brian’s Dani doesn’t present as stereotypically feminine, any explicit mentions of sexuality or disability are avoided in the film itself.

A fantastically fun summer blockbuster, Twisters delivers on the age-old Hollywood. Javier "Javi" Rivera is a storm chaser. Javi was portrayed by Anthony Ramos in the film, Twisters. Javi was a college student, working alongside Kate, Addy, Praveen, and Jeb as a storm chaser team. Working with a Dorothy V doppler, the team attempted to launch barrels of sodium polyacrylate solution into a tornado with the goal of reducing its intensity.
