Bandai Namco issued a statement on Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury that walked back a lesbian relationship. The quote has sparked controversy among its LGBTQ+ fans. While Gundam is unfortunately farther away from it's original 33% female viewership, and has become a fairly limitted demographic of year old males, there still is a significantly diverse gundam Fandom out there as well.
I'm going to bring to light the LGBTQIA+ community here. Unfortunately, despite how great Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury was for LGBTQ+ representation, Bandai Namco has decided to walk back on it.
September ’s Gundam Ace featured an interview with Suletta’s voice actor, Kana Ichinose, where she remarked on Suletta and Miorine being married, but the digital version cut out any. We take a look at whether Machu and Nyaan are gay in Gundam GQuuuuuuX and other lesbian and LGBTQ characters in the franchise. In Gundam ’s 40+ year history, there has been plenty of gay subtext, queer secondary and tertiary characters, and fan shipping, but never anything as explicitly stated as The Witch From Mercury.
We've received many inquiries about Bridget's gender. Release Date - This was never meant as a PSA for the fandom to do better and frankly, any homophobic remarks wouldn't have warranted a response in an article such as this. By continuing to use this website, you agree to their use. So, as to whether "he" or "she" would be the correct pronoun for Bridget, the answer would be "she.
Their appearances are very uninspired, with nothing to give them the visual punch of the Valvraves , even when they go into their superpowered Buddy Modes. There, Sueltta's eagerness to befriend Miorine leads her to become entangled in the ongoing war for the right to marry her.
Same goes with the overall rushed, vanilla nature of the series. I saw this series on the Daisuki website and was thinking of giving it a go. While some merely shipped Suletta or Miorine with Guel or one of the other male leads, many were against the presence of a homosexual relationship in a Gundam series at all. While the love between Utena and Anthy was clear, it was ultimately subtext, not explicitly canon.
Seasons 1. For years, she had convoluted lore reasons for being a female-presenting male and everyone loved her, and now she's exactly the same but identifies as a female, which upset some people. Vanilla is acceptable.
While fan complaints were one thing, the controversy took a darker turn when, following the series' conclusion, Bandai Namco Filmworks Sunrise attempted to de-canonize Suletta and Miorine's marriage. Included in the December Japanese Blu-ray release of the series was a message from series director Hiroshi Kobayashi. After a chance meeting in space wherein a wide-eyed and innocent Suletta accidentally foils Miorine's plan to escape her father's grip by traveling to Earth, the two wind up attending the Astiscassia School of Technology together.
Hopefully, this explains the kind of pushback members of the queer community are used to seeing whenever something gay happens or when a character turns out to be trans. Your comment has not been saved. In it, Ben elaborates that the point of contention with regard to subtext is whether the viewer was looking for subtext and projected meaning or whether the film earnestly created that reaction.
But she goes out of the way to suppose Mercury must be more conservative, citing the obvious fact that same-sex pairing is common, effectively saying "gay people exist Suletta Here's the cultural significance behind this and what it's led to. Sure the culture isn't perfect, but the mere assumption that queer readings are just the ramblings of shippers can make it difficult to get analysis in that realm to be taken seriously.
Valvrave had similar issues in the 2nd half too. Many fans, especially Japanese ones, have likened Suletta Mercury to a tanuki. Despite getting engaged at the end of episode one, Suletta and Miorine's romantic arc spans the entire duration of the series. There's no guarantee that any potential return will feature Suletta and Miorine, but whether they do, their story is told, their love is final, and no corporation will ever be able to bring them down.
