But for a movie minutes long, “Love Actually” represents an admirable effort to illustrate (in a commercially viable way) a varied love landscape. And that’s exactly where we wind up with the toxic friendship between Billy Mack (Bill Nighy) and Joe (Gregor Fisher) in Love Actually: a portrait of what’s supposed to be a feel-good male friendship where one party is fat-shamed and ridiculed with the expectation that the other party doesn’t have to change his behavior.

With the exception of the platonic love between Billy Mack and his manager, Joe, as well as the women involved in Colin's American girl fantasy, every single couple is heterosexual. Just because I assumed that they were gay doesn't mean that they had to be a sexual same-sex couple. I was saying he realized he had romantic feelings for his manager. Love Actually star Bill Nighy says that his rock star character Billy Mack is not based on an actual musician.

Directed by Richard Curtis, the classic Christmas film Love Actually features an impressive ensemble including Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, and Hugh Grant.

Where did I say it was sexual? Billy comes to Joe's place, saying he's realised Joe is the one person he wants to be with; Joe laughs and says, what, twenty minutes at Elton John's and you're as queer as a hatstand? This being the Richard Curtis universe, he succeeds — and for once, we're willing to let the improbability of Sam's Heathrow escapade slide, just because his tiny happy face is the true meaning of Christmas.

Now my one complaint about this post, is the disservice you do to this witty script. The film is a festive favourite, but it's a very white Christmas That kind of loyalty is hard to find. When rejected, he laughed it off and suggested they get drunk and watch porn. Like Like. The teacher — played by beloved TV actress Anne Reid — is seen at the school, before heading home to her partner, played by stage great Frances de la Tour.

So, what could be more romantic than a storyline where neither character actually understands what the other is saying, while one is quite literally the other's domestic drudge? Billy Mack is my favorite character in the film, mainly because of the funny lines and moments he has. It's a monumental injustice that Ant and Dec, arguably the most enduring platonic love story of the modern age, didn't get a full Love Actually of their own.

Wanna watch porn? Male platonic love wins the day. I would not be so patient. What could be more endearing than the 'total agony' of Sam's crush on Joanna, who 'everyone worships because she's heaven'? On paper, it's another workplace relationship with a blatantly unbalanced power dynamic — and one that compromises the special relationship between Britain and the US in the process.

But, they are older single men who both lived for their careers. Oh well, this has become one of those 'Depends what you mean by' conversations. This behavior culminates at the climax of the film, where we find Billy in the midst of a smashing success for his song. Just my two cents. I said romantic. When I said I wanted to be a comedian, they all laughed at me.
